The Blackland Prairie Festival

Sunday, May 11, 2008

Parade 12:30 p.m.

Other events 1:00-5:00 p.m.

Historic Downtown Plano

15th Street east of Central

LWV is listed as one of the sponsors

Be a suffragette -- in costume, if possible -- wearing either all white or all black.  Donna Bening will have "Votes for Women" sashes available to pin on your blouse.  If you want to really dress up, go to Teacups and Antiques and see Sharon Lloyd, the Festival chair, and get a costume and accessories.  Donna and Patty Jantho have been outfitted as Carrie Chapman Catt, the founder of the LWV, and Susan B. Anthony, respectively..

Arrive by 12:30 and  you can be in the parade walking from 15th Street & Avenue K to the Interurban Museum.  Teddy Roosevelt will greet the crowd and will in turn introduce S. B. Anthony, who will say a few words urging people to support women's suffrage.  The era depicted is 1908, the year the electric train was inaugurated, hence T.R. (president at the time) and S.B. Anthony and suffragettes.

We have three locations that we plan to staff:
           1.  The museum itself, in the entry area
           2.  A table in a tent just outside the museum
           3.  A table at Teacups and Antiques located just east of the museum on 15th Street

We will be registering people to vote, handing out membership information about LWV and selling some cookbooks.  Please contact Patty Jantho if you wish to participate.  If you can be with us anytime between 1 and 5 it would be great.
