Studies for 2010-2011

Issues that were selected for study.

1.  Indigent Health Care and Mental Health Care in Collin County

This study has been ongoing for one year under the direction of Mary Alice Garza.  Her committee works with the Health Care of Collin County (HCCC) committee, and is currently awaiting the release of a study by the University of North Texas for more recent data.  The results of their study will update our current program position on health care in Collin County.  A meeting for member education on their findings will be held this year.

2.  Alternative Education for the Collin County Juvenile Probation Programs

Focus:  A study of the education systems of two campuses: the Juvenile Justice Alternative Education Program (JJAEP), a non-residential campus; and, the Collin County Juvenile Detention Center (CCJDC), a short- and long-term residential facility.

Scope:  Study the educational needs and curricular offerings for the student population; student subgroups needing to be served, including special education, gifted, etc.; counseling services; test scores; and integration with students' home school district requirements.  Consider what changes or improvements need to be made.

Both campuses are under the supervision of the Collin County Juvenile Justice System and are run by the McKinney ISD.
