Healthcare Disparities in Collin County
Panel Discussion

We invite you to register and join us on Wednesday, April 5th, for an informative panel discussion on Healthcare Disparities in Collin County. The event will be held at Davis Library, 7501 Independence Pkwy, in Plano from 6-8 p.m. The program will begin with an informal meet and greet from 6:00-6:20 p.m.

Since 1920, the League of Women Votes has been an activist, grassroots organization with the dual purposes of education and advocacy. Our goal in planning this program was to learn from experts who were tasked to determine high-priority zip codes and health issues in Collin County, understand who is most at risk, and hear about community-based and policy solutions.

Our expert panelists for this discussion are:

Timothy Bray, Ph.D., Director of the Institute for Urban Policy Research at University of Texas at Dallas

Dr. Bray is the director of the Institute for Urban Policy Research at UT Dallas. His current research focuses on the development of multidimensional indicators for quality of life and disparities in quality of life. He was instrumental in the Institutes launch of the Wholeness Index, a comprehensive index of disparities in quality of life that taps 12 key dimensions of social dislocation. Dr. Bray serves on the Board of Directors of the North Texas Housing Coalition and the Executive Committee of the Urban Institute’s National Neighborhood Indicators Partnership. In addition, he advises several local organizations on issues of equity and sustainability. He has extensive publications and has been sought for his expert opinion and advice by news media, and organizations supporting women’s and children’s needs.

Jeff Button, Program Manager of Texas Health Resource's Community Health Improvement team

Jeff Button is a public health professional who discovered his passion for health promotion and disease prevention during his 8 years working within the healthcare sector. Upon graduating with his Master of Public Health (MPH) degree in December 2019 from the UTHealth School of Public Health, Jeff was determined to find a public health career that focuses on improving population health and well-being. Currently, he is employed by Texas Health Resources’ Community Health Improvement (CHI) team, where he serves as a Program Manager for Collin County. Jeff is passionate about reducing health disparities by addressing social determinants of health among high-risk and underserved communities. Jeff is Certified in Public Health (CPH) through the National Board of Public Health Examiners (NBPHE) and is a member of the American Public Health Association (APHA).

Dena L. Jackson, Ph.D., Chief Strategy Officer at Texas Women’s Foundation

Dr. Jackson is Chief Strategy Officer at Texas Women’s Foundation where she has served since 2012. She works across departments on projects and initiatives while also leading the Foundation’s research, policy advocacy and Housing Stability work. Following 14 years in healthcare administration and consulting, Dr. Jackson joined the nonprofit arena in 2001 starting with the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, as a fund raising consulting in South Florida, and then to the University of Texas at Dallas to open both the Foundation Relations and Research Development offices during five years as Assistant VP. This all set the stage for Texas Women’s Foundation. A native Texan, Dr. Jackson earned her Doctoral degree in Health Studies at Texas Women’s University. She is a graduate of both Leadership Texas and Leadership North Texas. She is immediate past chair of Asset Funder’s Network, Philanthropy SW Annual Conference committee and the AFN North Texas Advisory board. She spends her free time cooking, reading, playing with her two rescue cats and one rescue dog and traveling with husband, Bob.

Mary Ann Lee, BSN, RN, Led the formation of the Collin County Coalition of Charitable Clinics

Mary Ann Lee earned her BSN with a minor in Psychology/Sociology from Texas Women's University. She has over 40 years of clinical experience in nursing and nursing education, pharmaceutical sales, training, recruiting, and management. She was instrumental in developing Julia’s Center for Healthcare, a faith-based free clinic, staffed and funded solely by volunteers to serve the uninsured of Collin County. In addition, she facilitated the creation of the Collin County Coalition of Charitable Clinics and assisted in bringing Hope Restored Missions resource center into Collin County. Mary Ann has been involved in numerous professional and community organizations, many related to the healthcare industry.

Danelle Parker, BSN, RN, Director of Community Health Improvement for Collin, Denton, and Wise counties for Texas Health Resources

Danelle Parker got her start at Parkland Health Systems in the Neonatal ICU. She moved to Texas Health Resources and started at the Plano Hospital in 2000 as a Community Education Manager and has been with the THR system for over 21 years. Danelle is currently a Director of Community Health Improvement over the Collin and Denton/Wise regions. In 2019, Texas Health began a new initiative called Texas Health Community Impact. This is where THR gets outside and upstream of the hospital walls to study why and what is sending people to our hospitals. “Your zip code should not make a bigger impact on your health than your genetic code.”
