President's Message
 from Janet Imhoff
Action in Voters Service and Program!
The two parts of the League’s mission, Empowering Voters, Defending Democracy, have been front and center this spring.
  • We have taped five Candidate Forums and prepared 16 Voters Guides for all cities in Collin County. Enter your address into Vote411.org to see a personalized sample ballot with candidates' responses to LWV questions. Thanks to our Voters Service VP Janice Schieffer and her wonderful committee of volunteers.  Please vote on May 6, or during early voting, April 24-May 2.
  • We held a public forum on April 5 to learn about Healthcare Disparities in Collin County.  Five interesting speakers told us about their efforts to make sure those who need healthcare services can find them at an affordable cost.  Thanks to the hard work of Program VP Sharon Hirsch and her committee.  This forum was taped and will be available on our website and YouTube channel.
  • LWV members are active at the Legislature in Austin, providing testimony and preparing Action Alerts to keep you informed about what is happening so you can weigh in.  Please take advantage and answer the Action Alerts that are sent to you by LWV Texas.  You can simply send the prepared letter to your legislators, or you can download the talking points and prepare your own letter.  But let them know what is important to you! They do keep track of the pros and cons they receive from all of us on each issue.
Thank you so much for your interest in good government and voter education. And save the date, May 20, for our in-person Annual Meeting. Information can be found on our website under About Us/Annual Meeting.
Janet

City and school elected officials have a major impact on your community and your daily life, such as how much you pay in property taxes, where housing and schools are built, and where your city and school set their priorities. It’s important to know where the candidates stand on issues that affect you.
